What is included

Choosing a level

Which check do you need?

The cheapest check is only a saving if it is the one you were asked for.

Before you pay for anything, check which level the employer, licensing body or organization requested. Ontario has three levels of police record check:

Buying the wrong level means paying twice. If the request says “judicial matters,” “Level 2” or “enhanced,” you need the CRJMC. For a full explanation, see CRJMC online: what it is and who needs it.

Online or police

Online vs. in person.

Both routes are legitimate. The difference is mostly time and convenience.

You can also request a police record check from your local police service, online, in person or by mail depending on the service. Each police service sets its own fees and process, so the cost and steps differ from one service to the next.

Time

Online results with us are usually emailed within minutes. DriveTest notes that checks requested through police services can take several days or weeks, particularly if fingerprints are needed to confirm identity.

Convenience

Online, there is no appointment, no travel and no time off work. You complete everything from your phone and receive a digital document you can forward or upload.

Avoid paying twice

Getting it right the first time.

A few habits save the cost of a second check.

  1. Confirm the level — Basic, CRJMC or vulnerable sector.
  2. Confirm the timing. Many organizations only accept a recent check: six months for an Ontario security licence, under 90 days for a towing certificate.
  3. Use your full legal name exactly as it appears on your ID.
  4. Keep the file intact — do not edit it or print and rescan it.
  5. Add the embossed certificate only if a paper original is required.
