FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the online criminal record check.

CPIC stands for the Canadian Police Information Centre — Canada's national law enforcement database. A CPIC name-based search checks your name and date of birth against criminal records held in the national repository. It is the most widely used form of criminal record check in Canada for employment and volunteer purposes.

For both Basic and Enhanced checks, results are typically returned within minutes of completing your consent and payment. Your digital certificate is sent directly to your email. In rare cases where additional review is triggered, processing may take slightly longer.

The Enhanced check includes judicial matters — active charges, warrants, court orders, peace bonds, and discharges — in addition to criminal convictions. The Basic check covers criminal convictions only. If you are unsure which applies, confirm with the organization requesting the check.

No. Both checks are name-based CPIC searches — they do not involve fingerprints and are not issued as certified RCMP documents. If IRCC has sent you a fingerprint request letter, you require an in-person fingerprint appointment. Book that appointment here →

You will need your full legal name, date of birth, and a valid government-issued photo ID number such as a driver's licence or passport. No physical documents need to be mailed or uploaded.

Yes. During checkout you can optionally add a certified embossed physical certificate for +$9.00. Additional copies are available at +$6.00 each. Your digital certificate is always included.

Validity depends entirely on the requesting organization. Most employers and institutions accept results that are 3 to 6 months old. Always confirm the requirement before ordering.

Online CPIC checks are for Canadian criminal record purposes only. FBI background checks, foreign police certificates, and ink fingerprint submissions require an in-person appointment. Learn more →
